Marietta’s Scott Crow, right, won the GSGA Junior Boys’ Match Play Championship at Indian Hills Country Club on Wednesday. He is seen with girls champion Mahima Vurupatur of Alpharetta.
Marietta’s Scott Crow won the championship match in the GSGA’s Junior Boys’ Match Play Championship on Wednesday at Indian Hills Country Club in east Cobb.
“It’s very exciting. Never felt something like this before,” Crow, a recent Walton graduate, told the GSGA in a post-match interview.
In the 42-player field, Crow shot 74 to qualify for the 16-player round-robin pod play.
Crow was one of the top four players and advanced out of pod play and into the semifinal match against Sam Miller in an all-Marietta showdown.
Crow defeated Miller 4 and 3 to advance to the final against Roswell’s Charles David Beeson. Crow continued to play well and defeated Beeson by the same 4 and 3 score, which included making a lengthy putt that he said seemed to be the difference in the match.
“After No. 5, when I made that 40-footer, that pretty much won it for me,” Crow said.
In the girls tournament, Walton golfer Saanvi Venkatesh also qualified for match play, but she fell in the semifinal to Calhoun’s Ella Manley, who then finished runner-up to champion Mahima Vurupatur of Alpharetta.
