North Cobb’s Malachi Singleton has been named the top returning quarterback in the state.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pound dual-threat signal caller was given the honor by the ITG Next high school magazine this week.
Singleton finished his junior year completing 73% of his passes for 2,348 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also ran for 1,037 yards and 25 touchdowns while leading the Warriors to an 11-2 record and the second round of the Class AAAAAAA state playoffs.
“Malachi Singleton may be the most dynamic and impactful player in the state.” ITG Next wrote. “Singleton totaled over 3,000 yards from scrimmage, but his impact looms much larger than any statistic could portray. The Warriors weren’t ever shut down offensively with Singleton starting last year, and they might not falter this season either.”
The four-star dual-threat signal caller committed to Arkansas in April.
Although not yet ranked in the top 10 by ITG Next, other Cobb County quarterbacks have the potential to be some of the state’s best by the season’s end.
Pebblebrook’s Qamar Grant, Kennesaw Mountain’s Cayman Prangley and Walton’s Jeremy Hecklinski are all returning starters.
Grant passed for 2,443 yards and 30 touchdowns while leading Pebblebrook to the second round of the Class AAAAAAA playoffs.
Prangley passed for 1,882 yards and 24 touchdowns, leading Kennesaw Mountain to the program’s first region championship and into the second round of the Class AAAAAA playoffs.
Hecklinski threw for 932 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He took over as the full time starter in the postseason and led the Raiders to the Class AAAAAAA semifinals.
