Kevin Rice scored a game-high four goals as the Atlanta Blaze snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the Charlotte Hounds 16-10 on Saturday.
Though it was considered a Charlotte home game was played, the matchup was played at MUSC Health Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina – the site of next month’s Major League Lacrosse championship.
After allowing the game’s first two goals, Atlanta (4-6) scored four in a row and never again trailed. The Blaze took a 9-4 lead into halftime, with two goals each from Rice, Sergio Salcido and Christian Cuccinello.
Cuccinello and Connor Kelly each had three goals for Atlanta, with Salcido adding his two. Four others scored one apiece. Joe Nardella dominated the faceoff spot, winning 22 of 29 controls.
Adam Ghitelman manned the net for Atlanta, saving 10 of the 19 shots he faced.
The game was the Blaze’s last one for three weeks. After a bye next week and a league-wide bye the following week, Atlanta will return to action July 21 at Ohio.
Mike Chanenchuk had three goals for Charlotte (6-5), including a 2-pointer in the third quarter. Dylan Maltz and John Haus each scored twice.
