East Point partners with young business owner for Popsicles with Police event

East Point kids cooled off in the summer heat with some sweet treats thanks to a partnership between the city of East Point and a local mobile ice cream business and its very young owner.

Councilwoman Stephanie Gordon launched the initiative Popsicles with Police in partnership with the East Point Police Department to provide free popsicles to city youth and encourage engagement with local law enforcement officers.

On July 20, they teamed up with 8-year-old Courtez Straughter who owns the popular mobile ice cream truck, TezzyPooh’s Ice Cream, along with his mother Courtney Petty.

Popsicle stops were made at the Jefferson Park Recreation Summer Camp, Martel Homes and Cameron Run Apartments.

TezzyPooh’s Ice Cream is named after Courtez, who started his own business when he was 6 years old due to his love of ice cream. Referred to as a “kidpreneur,” Courtez learned the ropes of owning his own business from his mother who is a serial entrepreneur.

Courtez and his mother have a customized sprinter van that they use to book ice cream parties and events all over Atlanta.
