Kevin Rice matched a team record with nine points and the Atlanta Blaze held on to win a rainy road game against the Boston Cannons 17-14 on Saturday.
Rice had four goals and four assists, punctuating his night on a 2-point goal with 2 seconds left in the game.
Atlanta (3-1) earned its third straight win following a season-opening loss and moved one game behind idle Charlotte for the Major League Lacrosse lead.
The Blaze scored the game’s first three goals and never trailed. Boston (1-4) made a third-quarter push with four unanswered goals to cut Atlanta’s lead to 9-8, but the Blaze closed the peri-od with three points on Austin Sims’ goal and Deemer Class’ 2-pointer.
Class now has a league-high five 2-point goals on the season.
Matt Gibson, Tommy Palasek and John Uppgren each had two goals for Atlanta, with Daniel Eipp, Matt Mackrides, Jeff Reynolds and Austin Sims scoring one apice. Gibson also had a pair of assists.
Blaze goalie Adam Ghitelman made 17 saves.
Kyle Denhoff, Tom Moore and Will Sands each had three goals for Boston.
