Cobb County’s Katie Cunane and Julia Morici came home from Denver with bronze medals.
Cunane and Morici were part of the 14U Georgia Impact 07 squad, which went 8-2, to finish third in the power pool bracket of the Triple Crown Sparkler held June 28-July 3 in Colorado.
Cunane, a rising sophomore at Mount Paran Christian, was ninth in strikeouts at the tournament, and had the lowest era of 0.72 throughout the tournament.
Morici, a center fielder and third baseman, had a batting average of .292. Kell’s rising sophomore had a .320 on-base percentage during the tournament.
“All the girls are required (and) encouraged to be in hitting, pitching, agility, lessons etc,” coach Kerry Holcombe said. “We practice 4-5 hours on weekends and practice during the week as well. It’s a lot of training in preparation for a national level tournament”
Ranked 11th nationally, the team had a comeback season, finishing third after being eliminated in two games from the same tournament last year.
“It was a major accomplishment for the girls… me and all the coaches are proud of how the girls came together as a team and see them grow together,” Holcombe said.
