Life University placed 10 athletes on the 2018 Fall Sports NAIA-Daktronics Scholar Athlete list.
The Running Eagles’ men’s soccer team led the way with five players -- Eddy Diaz, Ricardo Lawrence, Rosendo Sierra-Flores, Wessley Soronellas and Spencer Surmont.
Women’s volleyball had three on the list in Mary Alvis, Kalen Banks and Amber Harris. Women’s cross country was represented by Elizabeth Skipper and women’s soccer had Elisabeth Andersag.
“With so many young sport programs, it is so great to see how a continued focus on academic responsibility translates into accomplishments such as these,” Life athletic director Jayme Pendergast said in a release. “We are building a department that takes great pride in a commitment to education and excellence. Kudos to these 10 student-athletes who serve as models of achievement of the highest of academic goals.”
It marks the first time in the history of Life’s athletic department that each fall sport had at least one representative.
In order to be included, an athlete must have maintained a grade-point-average of a 3.5, and must have reached junior academic status at the institution.
