The First Christian Church of Mableton hosted the April 14 Meals On A Mission whereby 132 families were provided with dry/canned groceries, Post Cereal and produce boxes. In addition, Sweetwater Mission resourced yogurt and frozen dinners. While Executive Minister Barry Smith was inviting our guests without a church home to come to our Easter Service, he also reminded us that "true service to God is not on Sunday morning. True service is our everyday service to those who are in need."
Fortunately, the weather cooperated allowing The First Christian Church of Mableton to conduct their Quarterly Adopt-A-Mile litter clean-up of Old Alabama Road. We also cleaned up along Whispering Pines Road removing a total of 20 bags of litter from that area. We had a fun time getting those roads looking good for Easter Sunday.

10 Women of Hope Inc. was the recipient of a donation from Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby's International Realty in memory of Laurel Kovach.
Laurel, a charter member of 10 Women of Hope Inc., was instrumental in helping to establish this community non-profit which serves single parents who are experiencing an essential financial need. Laurel passed away after a battle with cancer in the fall of 2021.
Kathy McCabe, a good friend of Laurel and an agent at Atlanta Fine Homes, reached out to their Atlanta Corporate office and applied for a community donation in December in Laurel’s honor.
Jim Glover, the Vice President/Managing Broker of the Cobb Office, spoke during the check presentation stating that Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby's International Realty has been blessed and believes in giving back to the community. "As personal friends of Laurel, Kathy and I were particularly impressed that all donations received by this organization go directly into helping their need of the focus - that is to help single parents maintain their financial stability during a time of crisis," Glover said.
When told about the donation, Gene Kovach, Laurel’s husband, offered this statement: "On behalf of our family (Kelly, Lindsey, and family), we are very appreciative of Kathy McCabe, Jim Glover and Atlanta Fine Homes for the generous donation to 10 Women of Hope in Laurel’s honor. Kathy’s thoughtfulness in submitting the grant application on Laurel’s behalf means so much to our family. Through her strong faith, Laurel believed in the power of Hope to fill us with joy and purpose amid our trials. This donation will further Laurel’s legacy and her heart for others as the 10 Women of Hope continue their wonderful work in helping single parent families in the community feel supported and encouraged."

Renasant Bank of Kennesaw and Marietta are hosting a backpack and essential items donation drive for the EXTENSION. The "We've Got Your Back" Backpack and Essential Items Donation Drive benefits the EXTENSION of Cobb County for homelessness and addiction.
EXTENSION residents often come into the program with just the clothes on their backs. They work fulltime while in the program but walk, ride a bike or take public transportation to their jobs. A new backpack is a blessing to them. Filling the backpack with the basic items they need to start their program successfully is invaluable.
Donation items requested are backpack, shower gel, razors, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, new underwear and socks - all adult sizes for men and women, cloth masks, notebook/pens, encouraging notes or scripture verses, feminine hygiene products and hair ties.
Donations will be taken through March 31 at Renasant Bank's locations at 3415 George Busbee Parkway NW in Kennesaw and 1320 Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta.

Campbell High School Beta Club is hosting a service project called Bags to Blankets to both help the environment and homeless population within Cobb County.
Club members collect and recycle plastic grocery bags to create woven blankets. Plastic bags are made to last, and by weaving them into blankets, club members create warm, weather-resistant mats. Beta Club Junior Representative and IB student Kayla Blosser brought the project idea to the organization. While Beta Club President and IB student Benjamin Loong planned the initiative.
Under their leadership, they communicated with local organizations as their club started collecting grocery bags in November from members and local donors. The ladies of Hurt Road Baptist Church, the community sponsor, meet the students on Saturdays to make as many blankets as possible. One blanket consists of about 1,000 plastic bags. Students alternate between making strips of bags that are then woven using a simple wooden weave.
Recently Campbell High School invited the Wheeler HOSA club, led by Sarah Thabet, to join their efforts and hopefully continue the project across the county. To date, the students have made three blankets.
Beta Club members plan to expand the project by collaborating with other school service organizations to make long-lasting impacts for the Cobb community.

Four Corners Group has a vision to restore hope to youth in crisis by providing pathways to a thriving adulthood. Through a team approach, including scheduled group cohorts, one-on-one intervention, job readiness and community service, youth who have either been recently released from juvenile detention centers, are involved in the juvenile court system, enrolled in alternative school or have dropped out of school receive a “real world” education and a plethora of support services.
Most of these youth face challenging life situations, ranging from single-parent homes, to incarcerated family members, to court involvement, to cycles of poverty. The ultimate goal is to empower these young people to live successful and productive lives by providing positive pathways toward a thriving adulthood and reach the potential they all have.
Since piloting the program formally in Cobb County in 2019, 72 students have participated in the multifaceted program; 48 parents have also benefited from parenting programs to support the progress their children are making. Additionally, over the past two years, school expulsion rates declined among participants, with 91% not suffering expulsion; school suspension rates also declined, with 73% not receiving school suspensions
In late 2021, a formal partnership was formed and in 2022, Four Corners launched programming at a second campus, hosted by Sweetwater Mission. The partnership and a second location could not have occurred at a better time for the Four Corners Group. In 2021, in spite of COVID-19 restrictions limiting face to face interactions, the organization served 44 students and 39 parents, with 16 students completing the demanding requirements to officially graduate from the Pathway to Success program. Today, there are already 29 students registered at the new Four Corners at Sweetwater Mission Campus and 16 at the Stonebridge Church location in Marietta.
For more information about volunteering or supporting the Four Corners Group, visit www.fourcornersgroup.net or contact them at info@fourcornersgroup.net or 470-210-1625.
